Penguins center Nick Bonino suffered an undisclosed injury in practice at Consol Energy Center Friday. The nature or the severity of the injury is not known.
According to general manager Jim Rutherford, Bonino did travel with the team for its game in Detroit Saturday and will be examined in the morning.
Bonino, 27, has played in 24 games this season and has scored 16 points (five goals, 11 assists). With center Evgeni Malkin sidelined due to an undisclosed long-term injury, Bonino has centered the team’s second line as of late.
Bonino’s injury prompted the team to recall center Oskar Sundqvist from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this evening. He was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the morning. Sundqvist, 22, had played in 12 NHL games this season and has one assist.
