Penguins hire Gary Agnew as assistant coach

The Penguins have hired Gary Agnew as an assistant coach.

Agnew, 54, was a St. Louis assistant the past two seasons. He also has worked as an assistant with Columbus for four seasons, including a brief stint as interim head coach, and head coach of Syracuse of the American Hockey League.

He also coached at the junior level for 11 seasons.

Agnew joins former Penguins winger Rick Tocchet on the staff of new coach Mike Johnston.
