The salary arbitration hearing for Penguins winger Nick Spaling has been set for July 31.

Spaling, a restricted free agent who was acquired by the Penguins from Nashville last month in the James Neal trade, made $1.5 million with the Predators last season. He had 13 goals, 32 points in 71 games.

The Penguins can continue to negotiate with Spaling, 25. Contract deals often are struck before arbitration hearing dates in the NHL.
