Penguins defenseman Matt Niskanen plans to test free agency

Penguins defenseman Matt Niskanen plans to test free agency, according to his agent.

"Matt Niskanen spoke to the Penguins and will make himself available on the free-agent market on July 1st," Neil Sheehy, wrote on Twitter today.

Niskanen, 27, is eligible for unrestricted free agency and is likely to command a contract that the Penguins would have a difficult time matching because of the salary cap.
