Pens hire Jason Karmanos as new VP of hockey operations

The Penguins have hired Jason Karmanos as their vice president of hockey operations, further expanding the management staff under new general manager Jim Rutherford.

Karmanos, 40, worked with Rutherford as assistant general manager, vice president and executive director of hockey operations over 15 seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes. Karmanos will assist Rutherford in all areas of the hockey operations with an emphasis initially on analytics.

Karmanos joins associate general manager Jason Botterill and assistant general managers Tom Fitzgerald and Bill Guerin on Rutherford's staff.
