A day before they open the playoffs, the Penguins reassigned three players to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

Defenseman Simon Despres, a first-round draft pick in 2009, is the biggest name of the three. Also demoted were forwards Harry Zolnierczyk and Chuck Kobasew.

The Penguins open the postseason against Columbus on Wednesday.
