PHILADELPHIA -- The Penguins opened their regular season today with a 3-1 victory against Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center.

The victory was the 227th for goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, a franchise record.

Tyler Kennedy gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead at 4:40 of the opening period, when he deflected a Paul Martin shot past Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov for a power-play goal.

James Neal made it 2-0 at 7:20, as he whipped a shot past Bryzgalov from the top of the left circle after Evgeni Malkin controlled a faceoff.

Claude Giroux of the Flyers cut the Penguins' advantage in half 23 seconds into the second period, as he steered a Scott Hartnell pass between Fleury's legs.

Chris Kunitz sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with 11.2 seconds left in regulation.

The Penguins will visit the New York Rangers tomorrow at 7:08 and play their home opener against Toronto Wednesday at Consol Energy Center.
