The Penguins have re-signed goaltender Brad Thiessen.

He accepted a one-year contract that will pay him $525,000 if he plays in the NHL, something unlikely unless Marc-Andre Fleury and/or Tomas Vokoun is injured, and a reduced salary if he is in the American Hockey League.

Thiessen was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent Sunday.

Thiessen, 26, was 23-15-2 in 41 regular-season appearances with the Penguins' farm team in Wilkes-Barre last season, and put up a 2.82 goals-against average.

He went 6-6 in the AHL playoffs and trimmed his goals-against average to 2.14. breaking - penguins
