NHL Draft: Penguins select defenseman Morrow

The Penguins tonight made defenseman Joe Morrow their first-round pick, 23rd overall, in the NHL draft at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.

Playing for Portland in the Western Hockey League, Morrow had nine goals, 49 points in 60 games. The 6-foot, 197-pounder shoots left. He is from Sherwood Park, Alberta.

Earlier, locally trained right winger J.T. Miller was selected by the New York Rangers 15th overall.

Miller is from East Palestine, Ohio, but played for Pittsburgh Hornets. He now is part of the United States Development Team and was a member of the gold-medal under-18 squad.
