Former Carolina left winger Ryan Bayda will attend the Penguins' training camp on a tryout.

Bayda, 29, is 5 foot 11, 195 pounds. He played in a career-high 70 games with the Hurricanes in 2008-09, putting up five goals and seven assists.

Bayda has a bit of a history with the Penguins, having received a match penalty and $2,500 fine for cross-checking Penguins defenseman Kris Letang in the head at the end of Game 2 in the Eastern Conference final in May.

He had accepted a tryout offer from St. Louis last week, but reversed course after the Blues signed former Los Angeles forward Derek Armstrong.

Also today, the Penguins released forwards Ryan Schnell and Justin Dowling and defenseman Brenden Dillon, all of whom participated in a prospects tournament in Kitchener, Ontario on tryouts and returned goalie Patrick Killeen and forward Andy Bathgate to their junior clubs.
