A goal in the 54th minute from Mike Green, one that capped off a run of several good scoring chances, gave the Riverhounds a 1-0 victory Friday night against Orange County Blues FC at Highmark Stadium.

After a shot from Danny Earls near the edge of the six-yard box was deflected by the goalkeeper, Earls regained control of the ball and passed it back to Green, who hit it in the upper right corner from near the penalty spot.

The victory was the team’s fourth in the past five games, a surge that has kept them in contention for a playoff spot, something of a feat for a squad that was not able to get its first win until the 11th game of the season.

The Riverhounds are off for the next week before heading west to take on Arizona United SC on Aug. 16. They played Friday without leading scorer Jose Angulo, who is nursing an ankle injury.
