Bowling Notebook: Striking success for the Lundys

Sunday, October 12, 2003

As Jenn Lundy approached the lane for the final pitch of the game, her knees buckled, he arm was twitching and her mind was blank.

"I was a nervous wreck," said Lundy, who buried her head in her husband's arms on the sideline. "I told him, 'I can't do this.' He said, 'Yes you can. Go throw the ball."

Lundy, a right-hander, pulled her toss left and hit high on the head pin, leaving the 3-10 split for a 298. The 298 and 777 series were both personal bests and highs this season in the Pinjammers League at Nesbits Lanes in Plum.

Her previous highs were 289 and 742.

Lundy, 29, a homemaker with three young children, has been on a roll recently with three consecutive 700 series to raise her average to 222. The league leader is her husband, Ed, at 223.

Jenn and Ed Lundy are engaging in a friendly rivalry to finish first in the league.

"I told him before the season, 'Ed Lundy, you're going down."' She laughed. "He told me, 'Chirp little birdie, all you want. We'll see.' "

Bowling has been an integral part of Jenn Lundy's life, starting at the age of three, when she first picked up a ball. She met her husband at Guys and Dolls Bowling Center in Penn Hills.

"We've been married 10 years. He was the lane mechanic and I was a junior bowler," she said. "Our twins, Brianna and Brooke are in a bumper league. My two-year-old, Rachel, is too young but keeps saying, 'Me, too, mommy.' "

The 800 Club

Darryl Humphries rolled a 300 and an 824 series in the Thursday Men's Master League at New Great Valley Lanes.
