Hempfield High School was the only double champion, winning section titles for boys and girls in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League.
The Hempfield boys won the East Division with an 8-2 record, two games ahead of a three-way tie for second between Woodland Hills, Greensburg Central Catholic and Franklin Regional.
The Hempfield girls won the East Division with a 10-0 record, three games ahead of Woodland Hills and Penn-Trafford.
The other section champions for the boys are Baldwin (South), North Allegheny and Chartiers Valley (North) and Moon (West).
The other section champions for the girls are West Mifflin (South), North Hills (North) and Montour (West).
Top scores recorded in the 10th and final week of the regular season:
East Division: Hempfield's Sean Wiant (278 high game), Scott Zemba (654 three-game series) and Mario Sollocchio (642), Woodland Hills' Branden Douglass (267), Franklin Regional's Jon Bright (265) and Greensburg Central Catholic's Aaron Youhouse (691) topped the charts. For the girls, Hempfield's Jenn Ridilla continued her torrid scoring with a 249/720, followed by teammate Jen Dalicandro (233/626) and Woodland Hills' Erin Archinal (221).
South Division: Baldwin's boys dominated with Mike Roth (234), Josh Sopko (223) and Steve Sobkiewicz (223/651). The girls got high scores from West Mifflin's Samantha Rebmann (226) and Christina Galonis (213/601), and Baldwin's Nikki Shore (224/602).
North Division: Langley's Will Lehrman (246/662), Quaker Valley's Greg Frederick (243/650) and North Allegheny's Kevin Davis (233/617) topped the boys. For the girls, Langley's Crystal Volgan (214) and North Hills' Lauren DiSanto were high rollers.
West Division: The headliners for the boys were Moon's John Munsick (247/625), Ambridge's Shawn Oslick (238) and Montour's Mike Valoski (235/668). For the girls, Montour's Kristen Massucci (211/553) had the only 200 game and 500 series. Moon's Katie Heinlein (198) and Alyson Buhonick (191) turned in solid performances.
Top rookie
Sabrina Duncan of New Orleans was named the Professional Women's Bowling Association 2002 Rookie of the Year only 10 years after she started bowling. She competed in 17 of 18 national tournaments and led all rookies in earnings, average and competition points.
Tournament trail
The bowlers who were snowed out a week ago will compete at 2 p.m. today at North Versailles Bowling Center in the final round of the Greater Pittsburgh Mixed Doubles tournament. Only those who paid for last week are eligible.
Shannon Wolfe of Wheeling, W.Va., won the Head-to-Head tournament at All American Lanes in Steubenville, Ohio, with a 223-176, victory against Dennis McGrath (Steubenville) in the final match. The Strike-pot has grown to $3,400.
The second scratch tournament in memory of longtime bowling proprietor Michael "Mickey" Michalojko will be today at Colonial Lanes, with $1,200 guaranteed for first place. There will be squads at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the final will be 4 p.m. Christopher Judd of Youngstown, Ohio, won last year, averaging 237 for four qualifying games and 213 in match play. Judd defeated Ross Zeigler, a member of the PGA National Tour, in the final match.
The 800 Club
Howard Higgins rolled his first sanctioned 800 series with games of 254, 278 and 279 for an 811 in the Bud Lite $12,000 Classic at South Hills Bowl.
Tom Biroscak fired a 278/800 in the Monday Mixed Trio League at New Great Valley Lanes.

Lou Gizzo threw his first 300 in the third game of a 721 series in the Bud Lite $12,000 Classic League at South Hills Bowl.
