By Phil Axelrod, Post-Gazette Sports Writer

Jenn Ridilla stole the show in Week 7 of the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League with a 256 high game and 701 three-game series to help Hempfield remain in first place at 7-0 in the East Division.

Hempfield's Tara Kane had a 225/624.

The other division leaders are West Mifflin (6-0) in the South Division, North Hills (5-1) in the North Division and Montour (6-0) in the West Division.

More high scores for the girls were recorded by Penn-Trafford's Danielle Holodnak (224/624), Oakland Catholic's Devon Zetelli (195/548), Seton-LaSalle's Amy Maegle (192/642) and Chartiers Valley's Beth Zupancic (199/518).

The boys were led by Franklin Regional's Justin Pass (267/700), Jon Bright (256/703) and Tyler Eckert (252), Hempfield's Mario Sollecchio (646), Central Catholic's Mike Tamaggi (218/593) and John Mahon (201), Chartiers Valley's Mike Lambros (268/629) and Will Lehrman (234/636), Montour's Mike Conway (224) and Bill Cutrone (210) and Our Lady of Sacred Heart's Mike Colucci (221).

The division leaders are Hempfield (6-1) in the East, Baldwin (6-0) in the South, Chartiers Valley (6-1) in the North and Ambridge (6-0) in the West.

The old college try

Community College of Allegheny County-South Campus opened its season with two victories against CCAC-Allegheny. The CCAC South Tigers struggled a bit in the first match at FunFest Lanes, with Jason Wunderlich (254/661) and Daryl Sherred (219/601) leading the three-game sweep. The CCAC South women won two of three matches behind Kelly Owens (179/505).

The men's teams moved to CCAC South's home Coral Lanes and the Tigers boosted their scores dramatically to roll to a 3-0 victory. Wunderlich had a 279/770 and Sherred a 230/621.

"Our boys are untouchable at home," Coach Ray Vilage said. "Not many schools can stay with us."

Perfecto

Talk about being in the zone. Josh Sopko, a junior at Baldwin High School who threw an 801 two weeks ago, posted his first sanctioned 300 in the middle game of a 713 series in the South Hills Bowl traveling league at Coral Lanes.

John Buckoske rolled his first 300 in the first game of a 643 series in the Bud Light $12,000 Classic League at South Hills Bowl.

The tournament trail

Jeff Poholosky picked up $1,400 by winning the Pittsburgh Bowlers Tour-sponsored scratch singles mid-year tournament at Brunswick Playmor Lanes. He had a 279 and 202 for a 481 total in the final two games to determine positions, 17 pins ahead of runner-up John Faber's 246-218-464.

Charlie Whiteman (Wellsburg, W.Va.) won the weekly Head-to-Head tournament with a 223-202 victory against Dave Blaskovich (Colliers, W.Va.) at All American Lanes in Steubenville. Whiteman averaged 215. The strike pot has grown to $2,485.

Radio news

Ed Montgomery (Butler) won the top seed in the Mars Lane Division qualifier of the "WBUT-Bud Light Championship" with a 953 four-game total. He advances to the quarterfinals in March. There will be a radio roll-off with six bowlers at Mars Lanes Saturday. Jerry Jara (New Castle) defeated Dean Weaver (Knox), 421-411, in the two-game roll-off at Bruin Lanes to advance to the quarterfinals.

Everything's ducky

Bill Dlugos (West View) defeated Sam Reich (Pittsburgh) in a two-game final, 306-271, to win a tournament in the Western Pennsylvania Duckpins Tournament Association's series at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association.

Dan Casciato (Castle Village) was the high qualifier with a three-game series of 455 and Alex Simakas (Sewickley) had the high game of 221. Reich defeated challenger Joe Marchase to retain his title as King of the Hill.
