Bowling: Ford City's Bower bowls 'em over

Rich Bower of Ford City brought back a lot of hardware from the Pennsylvania State Seniors tournament at Best Bowl in Selingsgrove and Mifflinburg Lanes in Mifflinburg.

Bower teamed with Zelienople's Michael Shenesky to win the scratch doubles with a score of 1453.

Bower also won the scratch singles in his age class (60-64) with a 720 three-game series and combined with Shenesky to capture the doubles with a 1477 total.

In the 70-and-over handicapped singles event, Dominec Yanniello and James Ward of the Greater Pittsburgh Tenpin Bowling Association finished third and fourth.

Everything's ducky

Joseph Marchase of Greenfield averaged 170 for seven games and went undefeated in match play at Pittsburgh Athletic Association to win the first tournament in the series sponsored by the Western Pennsylvania Duckpins Tournament Association. Bill Dlugos of West View was the high qualifier with a 506 series and finished third overall. Don Henecke's 204 was the high game.

Chet Fosse defeated Sam Reich in the "King of the Hill" competition. The next tournament will be Dec. 14. Call 412-391-3700.

The tournament trail

Tony Knuth picked up $400 by winning a handicap tournament sponsored by the Pittsburgh Bowlers Tour at West Pike Bowl. Bill Dawson finished second.

Mike Repasky defeated Shawn McCullough in the final match, 234-228, to win Week 7 of the Miller Lite Head-to-Head tournament at AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes. There will be a tournament tonight at 8:15, with a $22 entry fee.

Ron Baker (Weirton, W.Va.) defeated Mike Montgomery (Toronto, Ohio) in the final match, 214-202, to win the head-to-head tournament at All American Lanes in Steubenville, Ohio. Baker averaged 228.

The 800 club

Once was not enough for Kristi Young, who has been in a zone this season. After posting her first 800 series with games of 274, 255 and 277 for an 806 series, she came back with a 246, 300 and 268 for an 814 in the Mixed Trio League at Miracle Lanes. It was the first 300 for Young, who raised her average to 221. Her teammates are her father, John Young, and Myron Davenport.

Matt Egyed had games of 269, 289 and 246 for an 804 series in the Coors Light Players League at AMF Noble Manor Lanes.

Perfecto

Dave Adams threw his 17th sanctioned 300 in the final game of a 692 series for Bill's Pro Ship in the Bud Lite $12,000 Classic League at South Hills Bowl.

Traveling along

Nesbits' Marshall McKallip (279) and Swissvale Arcade's Shawn Pilyih (278) were the headliners at Lokay Lanes in the Pgh. Area Scratch Travel League. Sheffield Lanes continues to hold first place with a four-point lead over Pines Plaza Lanes.

On a roll

George Logue had a 290/763 in the Coors Light $10,000 Classic League at South Hills Bowl.

Bob Lersch (268/761) and Dan Schumacher (278/756) led the way in the Coors Light Players League at AMF Noble Manor Lanes.

Cheryl Szablewski (158 average) started with two spares and finished with 10 consecutive strikes for a 279 in the Tuesday Night St. Margaret's League at Arsenal Lanes.

Nunzio Pompilio threw a 267/770 in the Coors Light League at New Great Valley Lanes.

John Fichter's 267/766 was high in the Bud Lite $12,000 Classic League at South Hills Bowl.

Jeff Deiley fired a 269/764 in the Thursday Men's Classic League at Princess Lanes.

Chuck Smith's 269/761 for the Gutterballs was the highlight at Swissvale Bowl-A-Rama.

League leaders

Ed Keefe topped the chart in the Coors Light $10,000 Classic League at South Hills Bowl with a 225.26 average.

What's happening

The Pittsburgh Bowlers Tour is sponsoring a scratch singles tournament today at Freeway Lanes, with $1,000 for first place. Entry fee is $29.
