Bowling: CCAC-North beats Stanford?

Sunday, February 24, 2002

By Phil Axelrod, Post-Gazette Sports Writer

Repeat after me: Community College of Allegheny County-North defeated Stanford.

Only in bowling could that sentence be written.

CCAC-North picked up the victory in the Coca-Cola Brunswick Collegiate Classic tournament in Las Vegas that was sanctioned by College Bowling USA, ABC and WIBC. CCAC-North was one of a handful of junior-college teams competing against NCAA Division I opponents in the scratch invitational event.

The CCAC-North team, coached by Jeff Leya, was comprised of Jeremy Supinski (West Allegheny), Josh Brackman (Moniteau), Mike Michalski (Shaler), Christie Jewell (North Hills), Jessica Cowan (North Hills) and Ollie Honkamaki (formerly from Finland).

CCAC-North, whose only victory was against Stanford, finished 35th in the 41-team field that included junior-college and all-division NCAA teams.
