West Mifflin youth tops in WPIBL

West Mifflin's Matt Bonacci had games of 219, 233 and 236 for a 688 series to lead the way for the boys in Week 4 of the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League (WPIBL) season.
Other top scores were turned in by Central Catholic's Ray Simko (235/664), West Mifflin's Chad Cygnarowicz (244/644) and Jon Rebmann (258/657), Hempfield's T.J. Black (252/652) and Ambridge's Louis Sposaro (232/617).
Rolling high games for the girls were Hempfield's Deanna Heater (256), Baldwin's Lisa Snyder (257/631), Hempfield's Melissa Black (205), Oakland Catholic's Maureen Martin(203) and Hempfield's Jennifer Ridilla (201).
Traveling along
Chuck Becker (Playmor) had a high game of 289 and Kevin Gmys (Kennedy) had high series of 770 in the Pittsburgh Area Scratch Travel League at Kennedy Lanes. Joe Goldie (Funfest) has a league-high 218.59 average and #1 Pines Plaza Lanes has a six-point lead over second-place Sheffield Lanes in the team standings.
Macpherson's the one
Wendy Macpherson (Henderson, Nev.) is the 2000 Woman Bowler of the Year for the fourth time in the past five years by the Bowling Writers Association of America. Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, winner of the Three Rivers Open at Princess Lanes in Whitehall, was second and Michelle Feldman third.
Macpherson won two tournaments 3/4 the Women's International Bowling Congress Queens and the Southern Virginia Open 3/4 and was the leading money winner on the Professional Women's Bowling Association tour with $108,525. She finished in the top five in 15 of 23 tournaments.
The PWBA spring/summer tour begins May 7-11 with the WIBC Queens in Sunrise, Fla.
The 800 club
Mike Repasky, president of the Bud Lite $12,000 Classic League at South Hills Bowl, rolled his first 800 series with games of 288, 265 and 254 for an 807.
The tournament trail
Ray McNurlen (Washington, Pa.) picked up $600 by winning the Saunier Wilhem-sponsored 40-and-over tournament at West Pike Bowl in Canonsburg. He defeated Dud Snider (W.Va.) in the two-game finals, 428-418.
*Bill Weiss defeated Eric Armbruster, 182-177, to win Week 12 of the Miller Lite Head-to-Head tournament at AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes.
Everything's ducky
Dave Beran (East End) defeated Dan Casciato (South Hills) in the championship game, 168-152, to earn the first-place prize of $250 in the first qualifier for the Western Pennsylvania Duckpins Tournament Series at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association. Crusher Uhutch (Charleroi) was the high scorer in the seeding round with a 480 series. All three bowlers qualified for the Grand Finals, Feb. 24.

Matt Fasnacht (Zelienople) won the Mars Lanes qualifier with a four-game series of 923 in the "WBUT Bud Light Championship." Dean Weaver rolled the eighth 300 in the three-year history of the event.
Fasnacht, Weaver, Dan Persic, Gene Tabone (Monaca), Tony Pizer (Butler), Barry Barger (East Brady) and Jim Ollio (Mars) advanced to the next round.
Oh, so close
Rich Snyder III left a 10-pin on his final pitch to finish with a 299 and a 688 series in the Bud Lite $12,000 Classic League at South Hills Bowl.
High rollers
Mike Beddard rolled a 290/792 in the House League at Arsenal Lanes in Lawrenceville.
Perfecto
Frank Kostik rolled a 300 and a 796 series at Swissvale Arcade.

Saunier Wilhem is sponsoring a scratch tournament at Stan's White Oak Bowl today, with squad times at 9 and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
