Lake Erie (Erie County): Walleye were at 105 feet out of North East and near the bottom according to other reports. Yellow perch action picked up at 50 to 55 feet west of Freeport, and smallmouths were taken in 25 to 35 feet. Lots of bass and panfish were taken near the north and south piers, and anglers reported good catches of largemouths, panfish, silvers and even northern in the bay.

Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County): Walleye took floating crankbaits after dark, and worm harnesses and Hot ‘N Tots by day. Steve Troppen of Mars release a 37 1/2-inch musky taken while trolling a large plug.

Conneaut Lake (Crawford County): Nicholas Varhola, 2 1/2, caught his first fish, a 5-inch yellow perch, during a family vacation using his new Spiderman fishing rod.

Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): Walleye were hot for worm harnesses from Launch 4 to the dam. Many bass were caught on spinnerbaits. Panfish were small.

French Creek (Venango County): Before recent rains, nice smallmouths were taken on crankbaits.

Piney Dam (Clarion County): Nice catfish were taken at night, bass were active from Blyson Run to Mill Creek.

Kahle Lake (Clarion County): Bass took soft plastics, crankbaits and top-water lures. Crappies were caught in the morning.

Clarion River (Clarion County): Bass were caught from Cook Forest to Mill Creek. Anglers caught trout at the Gravel Lick and Blyson Run.

Allegheny River (Clarion County): The state Fish and Boat Commission reported good walleye catches in the Foxburg Pool. Bass were taken off the Parker islands.

Redbank Creek (Clarion County): Trout and bass were taken near the dam, bass were active from Mayport to the dam and nice walleyes were reported near St. Charles and Lawsonham.

Lake Arthur (Butler County): Robert Zenkin and Steve Platt of Butler released four nice flatheads near the Rte. 528 bridge while fishing with cut baits at night. At the Post-Gazette Family Fishing Area at the Regatta at Lake Arthur, Aug. 2-3 at Moraine State Park, several kids caught their first fish. The list includes Zaira Gilliland, 6, of Slippery Rock; Trina Cheng, 8, of Frederick, Md.; and Owen Winter, 4, of Richmond, Va. Lots of additional sunfish, bluegills and yellow perch were caught on live bait donated by Ed Vaccari at Tackle Unlimited in Jefferson Hills.

North Park Lake (Allegheny County): Trout were deep but still taking baits fished near the bottom. Bass took live minnows under bobbers, and lots of panfish were caught from shore.

Monongahela River (Washington County): Despite cloudy water, flatheads and channel cats took cut baits near tributaries and lock and dam tailraces.

Youghiogheny River (Fayette County): Smallmouths, rainbow trout, channel cats and freshwater drum were taken on worms, crayfish, minnows and kitchen baits from Ohiopyle to Layton.
