Lake Erie tributaries (Erie County): Recent rains increased flow, which in turn sparked movement among the chromers. By Wednesday evening, however, waters dropped and the air temperature fell 30 degrees leaving the creeks low and clear and the steelhead skittish. Fish were caught in deep pools on the larger creeks using salmon eggs, skein, egg sacks and egg-pattern flies. Thursday midday flow was above average and dropping fast on Walnut Creek and Brady Run, which feeds Elk Creek. Showers were predicted today through Sunday with temperatures around 50 degrees.

Allegheny River (Venango County): Successful smallmouth hook-ups were reported. Cold water turned on the walleyes -- one angler released three fishing deep in heavy current near Franklin.

Glendale Lake, Wilmore Dam (Cambria County): While many sportsmen targeted deer, a few anglers had the water to themselves. Nice perch and bluegill were caught at Glendale Lake, and good-size crappies were active at Wilmore Dam.

Duman Dam, Lake Rowena (Cambria County): Anglers pulled in rainbow trout.

Chest Creek (Cambria County): In the Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section, fly anglers caught rainbows stocked by the state in October.

Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela rivers: The state Fish and Boat Commission reports normal December conditions on rivers in Southwest Pennsylvania. White bass, hybrid striped bass and walleye were gathering near dams and heavy structure. Live minnows were expected to be the hot bait.

Fishing Creek (Clinton County): Light green tint, water in the low 50s -- nearly perfect late-season conditions for fly fishing.

Spring Creek (Centre County): Low flow, but clarity and water temperatures were favorable for trout in this classic limestone stream.
