With waters cooling everywhere, fall trout stockings are planned for early October in lakes and creeks throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. Find details at www.fish.state.pa.us.
Lake Erie tributaries (Erie County): Walnut Creek remained low and clear, but a few steelhead were caught at the mouth.
Conneaut Lake (Crawford County): The access area boat launch will temporarily close Oct. 2 while the state Fish and Boat Commission dredges sediment and installs a pipeline at Inlet Run. The project expected to take two months.
Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): Thursday, Three Rivers Muskies Inc. stocked 3,500 muskellunge fingerlings as part of a Fish and Boat management plan to reduce an overpopulation of gizzard shad.
Lake Arthur (Butler County): Three Rivers Muskies Inc. planned to stock 6,000 musky fingerlings today.
Buffalo Creek, Harbar Acres Lake (Butler County): The creek's Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section is expected to receive a state stocking of rainbow trout Oct. 2. The lake will get brown and brook trout Oct. 3.
Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela rivers (Allegheny County): Two invitation bass and walleye fishing tournaments and free activities associated with the 3Rivers Challenge will be based at the Allegheny's North Shore Riverwalk on Pittsburgh's North Side. Weigh-in for the pro-am contest is 6 p.m. today. The all-pro event weighs in 6 p.m. Saturday.
Deer Creek and lakes (Allegheny County): The state Fish and Boat Commission plans a stocking of rainbow trout in the creek's Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section, and in the upper, middle and lower lakes Oct. 2.
Montour Run, Pine Creek (Allegheny County): State stockings of rainbows are slated for Oct. 2. On Pine Creek the fish will be placed from Willow Run to the lower end of the Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section.
Indian Creek, Donegal Lake (Westmoreland County): State trout stockings are planned for Oct. 4. The lake will get rainbows; brook and brown trout will go into the creek's Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section.
Indian, Mammoth lakes (Westmoreland County): Rainbows will be stocked Oct. 1.
Loyalhanna Creek, Keystone Lake (Westmoreland County): The state plans to stock rainbows Oct. 3 in the lake and the creek's Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section
Twin Lakes (Westmoreland County): The upper and lower lakes are scheduled for a state stocking of rainbows Oct. 5.
Glendale Lake (Cambria County): Anglers reported catches of panfish and bass. A 22-inch bowfin was recently caught on two small minnows. Bowfins are considered candidates for endangered-species protection and must be returned to the water unharmed.
Wilmore Dam (Cambria County): Evening crappie action picked up.
Hinkston Run Reservoir (Cambria County): A few catches of small walleyes were reported.
Canonsburg Lake, Dutch Fork (Washington County): The lake and creek's Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only stretch will get a stocking of rainbow trout Oct. 4.
Little Chartiers Creek (Washington County): Rainbow trout will be stocked Oct. 1 from the Rt. 519 bridge to a point near Lindon Creek Rd. and Cheslock Rd.
Millers Run (Washington County): A state stocking of rainbows is scheduled Oct. 2 from the Galati Road bridge to the Parks Road bridge.
Dunbar Creek, Virgin Run Lake (Fayette County): Oct. 5 the state will stock brown and brook trout at the creek's Catch-And-Release Fly Fishing Only section, and will put rainbows in the lake.
Meadow Run, Dunlap Creek Lake (Fayette County): Rainbows will be stocked Oct. 4 in the lake and the creek's Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section.
Laurel Hill Creek, lake (Somerset County): The creek's two Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only sections and Laurel Hill Lake will get a stocking of rainbow trout Oct. 3.
