Bo Nickal may live in the heart of Texas, but he's coming to Pennsylvania to wrestle in college.

Nickal, a three-time Texas state champion who attends Allen High School north of Dallas, accepted a scholarship to wrestle for Cael Sanderson and the No. 1-ranked Penn State wrestling team.

"Penn State started recruiting me when I was a junior," said Nickal, who boasts a 181-7 career record. "I made a visit last May and just loved it. I loved everything about the campus. The coaching staff and wrestlers made me feel at home."

Nickal received an offer from Penn State at the end of July and didn't waste much time making a decision.

"Coach Sanderson has done a great job since coming to Penn State," said Nickal, who turned down offers from Ohio State, Cornell, Michigan State and Okahoma. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to wrestle for him."

Nickal will make another trip to Pennsylvania in the middle of March. He's been selected to wrestle for the United States All-Stars in the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic, March 16 at Pitt's Fitzgerald Field House.

"I've been following The Classic on the Internet for years, so I'm quite familiar with the event," Nickal said. "It's an honor to be chosen for such a prestigious event. I'm really looking forward to the opportunity. It will be a great way to end my high school career."

Nickal has been matched with Kennard-Dale senior Chance Marsteller at The Classic. Marsteller, a three-time PIAA Class AAA champion who has a chance to join Pennsylvania's elite four-time champions club, was extended an invitation in December. Marsteller, an Oklahoma State recruit, has a perfect 162-0 record.

"I've always been lighter than Marsteller, so we've never met [in competition]," said Nickal, who won his first three state titles at 125, 145 and 160. "But I am familiar with him. I'm really looking forward to the match."

Nickal is one of two Penn State recruits on the United States team. He will be joined by Nick Nevills, a three-time California champion from Clovis High School who competes at 285 pounds.

The United States All-Stars will face Pennsylvania in the feature match at 6 p.m. A team of WPIAL All-Stars will face the Oklahoma All-Stars in the preliminary match at 4 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at Wright Automotive Group on Route 19, Monroeville Chrysler Jeep, Canon McMillan High School, or by calling the Dapper Dan Charities at 412-263-3850.
