The four champions of the WPIAL Class AAA and AA doubles tournaments Tuesday at North Allegheny all had something in common.
They were WPIAL champions in 2012, too.
Shady Side Academy's Alok Nimgaonkar and Chris Grubbs defended their WPIAL Class AAA doubles title with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 victory against Fox Chapel's Ben Short and Sid Rajupet.
"It's just awesome," Grubbs said. "It's so exciting. I forgot how exciting it was from last year."
In Class AA, Sewickley's Will Kleeman and Colin Kaye beat Mars' Josh Raymundo and Aaron Gruber, 6-3, 6-2.
This was Kleeman's third consecutive WPIAL doubles crown, all with different partners.
It was Kaye's first title in doubles, but he won the 2012 WPIAL Class AA singles title.
All four of the teams that played in the finals advanced to Hershey for the PIAA Class AAA and AA doubles tournaments May 24-25.
Joining them will be Blackhawk's Jonah Cooper and Clint Davies, who won the WPIAL Class AA consolation match against Greensburg Central Catholic's Bargo Patel and Dan Seamans, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Upper St. Clair's Fernando Escribens and Christian Meyer won the Class AAA consolation match against North Allegheny's Kevin Goth and Tomas Monti, 6-3, 6-1, but only the top two teams in Class AAA qualify for the PIAA tournament.mobilehome - hsother
