Kylie Isaacs and Mikayla Becich were the No. 11 seed and didn't even win their own section's doubles tournament.
But Friday, they were crowned WPIAL champions.
The North Allegheny duo beat the Upper St. Clair team of Megan Adamo and Andrea Hammer, 6-3, 6-3, in the Class AAA tournament championship match at Pine-Richland High School.
"They used their singles skills and their doubles strategy, and between both of those tactics, they were successful," North Allegheny coach Michelle Weniger said. "I'm thrilled for them."
Both finalists qualified for the PIAA tournament Oct. 22-23 at the Hershey Racquet Club.
? For the second consecutive year, South Park's Elise Carter and Tracy Gibson are heading to Hershey as PIAA tournament qualifiers. This season, they get to go as WPIAL Class AA champions.
Third place last season, Carter and Gibson beat Sewickley Academy's Caroline Ross and Maria Frischling, 6-4, 6-1, in the final Friday.
Valley's Courtney Brennan and Emily Robson earned the third PIAA Class AA berth with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, win against Greensburg Central Catholic's Faith Finoli and Jackie Hauser in the consolation match.
