Defending PIAA champions and No. 1-ranked Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic extended its winning streak to 17 games with a convincing, 63-19 season-opening Eastern Conference win Friday night at Northgate.
Jerome Turner ran for four touchdowns and 137 yards for the Trojans, who finished 16-0 last season. North Catholic's defense forced three turnovers and only allowed two first downs. The Trojans outgained the Flames, 414-142.
Trojans quarterback Adam Sharlow completed 8 of 13 passes for 64 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Darian Mercurio.

Robert Lindsey scored five touchdowns as the No. 5 Lancers rolled to victory against the host Rams in the Big Seven Conference. Lindsey scored on rushes of 1, 1, 3 and 10 yards and caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Frank Antuono, who also returned a fumble 11 yards for a score.

Brian Carnegie recovered a fumble for a touchdown with 17 seconds remaining in regulation and Nicholas Rogers kicked an extra-point to lift the Rangers past the Chargers in a Black Hills Conference game at Robert Morris. Nick Cook scored on runs of 14 and 69 yards for Fort Cherry.

Brian Pevarnik ran for two touchdowns and kicked the winning field goal with 1.8 seconds left to lift the No. 3 Centurions past the visiting Greyhounds in the Eastern Conference.

The Spartans brushed aside a 14-0 first-quarter deficit to rally past a Vincentian team making its WPIAL debut in a non-conference game. The Royals began a football program last season when they played as an independent.
