WPCW will televise two PONY League World Series games in August from Lew Hayes Field in Washington, Pa.

WPCW will have live coverage of the Aug. 9 game between the Asia Pacific Zone champion and the winner of the opening game between the South Zone champion and Caribbean Zone champion. The game will start at 5 p.m.

The station also will broadcast the Series title game beginning at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13. In previous years, only the championship game has been televised.

The addition of a second televised game was announced Tuesday at a news conference unveiling a partnership between PONY Baseball and Softball and CBS Television Stations, which include KDKA and WPCW.

Abraham Key, president and CEO of PONY Baseball and Softball, described the opportunity as “unique.”

“We were looking for a good local broadcasting place. It’s just a good matchup for us,” he said. “We had other relationships with them, and it just felt like a natural partnership. They will broadcast a preliminary game and the championship game on a weeknight, which is something we’ve never done before.”
