The Obama Academy boys volleyball team captured its third consecutive City League title Wednesday with a two-set victory against Allderdice at Brashear.

"This is the best performance of any team I've coached in the City League tournament," Obama Academy coach Pete Vitti said afterward.

"We held everybody to 14 points or less. We dominated our competition."

It's the ninth consecutive City League title for Vitti, who won six in a row at Schenley before the school closed. It also will be his final City title, as Obama is moving to the WPIAL next year.

Obama was seeded first in the four-team double-elimination tournament. The Eagles easily defeated Perry, 25-5, 25-10, in the semifinals, while Carrick defeated Allderdice, 25-19, 19-25, 15-10.

Obama then faced Carrick in the winners' bracket final and recorded a 25-12, 25-14 victory.

Allderdice rebounded from its loss to Carrick with a come-from-behind, 20-25, 25-20, 15-12 win in the consolation bracket to earn a berth in the championship round.

Already tagged with one loss on the day, Allderdice would have to beat Obama twice to claim the City League crown.

A second match wouldn't be needed, as Obama posted a 25-9, 25-13 win to claim the title.

Ray Casio, a junior middle hitter, and Devaugh Hester, a senior outside hitter, each recorded 20 kills for the Eagles.

Cascio also had 10 blocks.

Obama qualifies for the PIAA Class AA tournament, while Allderdice qualifies in Class AAA.
