The Chartiers Valley Colts hope to win the WPIAL Class AAA championship.

They began their quest Monday by eliminating the defending champions.

Josh LaPiana was terrific on the mound and at the plate to help No. 2 Chartiers Valley roll past No. 15 South Park, 11-1, in five innings in a first-round game at West Mifflin.

LaPiana, a senior left-hander and Akron recruit, picked up the win after allowing two hits and one walk to go with six strikeouts. He improved to 7-1 for the season.

LaPiana added three RBIs for the Colts (16-3), who have won six games in a row.

Jake Ritson fueled a three-run first inning with a two-run single and finished with three RBIs.

South Park (9-10), which went 25-1 last season, lost five of its final six games.
