Quarterback J.J. Cosentino is one of three Central Catholic standouts picked to play in the annual Big 33 game.
From local dispatches
The Pennsylvania team for the Big 33 Football Classic was announced Tuesday and the squad has a heavy WPIAL flavor.
Almost half of the 34-player team is made up of WPIAL players as 15 seniors from the league were selected. The 57th Big 33 will be played June 14 in Hershey with Pennsylvania meeting Maryland.
Of the 15 WPIAL players, three are from WPIAL Class AAAA champion Central Catholic -- quarterback J.J. Cosentino, linebacker Niko Thorpe and defensive back Tre Tarpley. Aliquippa, Gateway, Mt. Lebanon and Thomas Jefferson all had two players selected.
Two quarterbacks from the WPIAL were selected, with Sto-Rox's Lenny Williams joining Cosentino.
Clairton's Tom Nola and Franklin Regional's Greg Botta will be assistant coaches for the Pennsylvania team. The head coach is Steve Shiffert of Easton.
