PINE-RICHLAND (1-0) at NORTH ALLEGHENY (1-0)

7:30 p.m. today: This is Pine-Richland’s best team since moving up to Class AAAA in 2008. The Rams have been talking big this season, but still have to prove themselves. Beating NA might convince many, but winning at Newman Stadium is difficult.

THOMAS JEFFERSON (1-0) at BELLE VERNON (1-0)

7:30 p.m. today: With a number of returning starters, Belle Vernon is a team to watch under first-year coach Matt Humbert. But to have any chance, Belle Vernon must control Thomas Jefferson’s strong running attack. Line play will be key.

KNOCH (1-0) at GREENSBURG SALEM (1-0)

7 p.m. today: Both teams had impressive wins last week. Knoch beat Franklin Regional, and Greensburg Salem surprised Gateway. The key matchup is: How will Greensburg Salem’s defense fare against an experienced Knoch offense?

VALLEY (1-0) at APOLLO-RIDGE (1-0)

7 p.m. today: Could Valley go 2-0 under first-year coach Muzzy Colosimo? Valley’s offense needs a jolt after winning the opener, 3-0. Watch Apollo-Ridge’s Mr. Everything, Tre Tipton, a Pitt recruit who scored three touchdowns last week.

GREENSBURG C.C. (1-0) at BETH-CENTER (1-0)

7 p.m. today: This is a non-conference game between two top Class A teams. Beth-Center has dominated in the much-maligned Tri-County South the past few seasons. A win against Greensburg Central Catholic would be a big boost for the Tri-County South.
