There is a chance Tom Nola could go from the black and orange of Clairton to the black and gold of Gateway.

Nola, who has won six WPIAL titles and four PIAA championships at Clairton, is a candidate to be the new coach at Gateway. He applied for the job, which opened when Gateway decided not to bring back Donnie Militzer after only one season. Nola declined comment on the situation.

Nola has been Clairton's coach since 2002 and guided the Bears to a state record 66-game winning streak from 2009-13. He is a retired history teacher.

One of the other candidates for the Gateway job is former Plum coach Frank Sacco. He has interviewed with Gateway. Sacco coached Plum from 2009-12 before his position was opened.

Gateway has not said when it hopes to hire a coach.
