Recruit Report: January all quiet on WPIAL front

It is less than two weeks to letter-of-intent day and barely a peep has been heard on the Western Pennsylvania football recruiting front.

Just about every senior Division I-A prospect in the WPIAL has made his college decision and just about every one of them had decided before the new year.

There are no recruiting battles going on for top prospects. There are no recruiting sagas, such as the one with Jeannette's Terrelle Pryor in 2008. There has been no one changing his mind late in the recruiting game and backing out of a verbal commitment.

For sure, this has to be one of the quietest Januarys in Western Pennsylvania football recruiting. Until about 15-20 years ago, January was a busy recruiting month filled with tons of news. But with early verbal commitments, that isn't the case as much any more.

The biggest piece of news in WPIAL recruiting this January might be that Pitt got a player from the class of 2015. Canon-McMillan junior offensive lineman Alex Paulina committed to the Panthers last Saturday.

High school seniors can sign a binding letter of intent with colleges Feb. 5. Here are WPIAL or City League seniors who have made verbal commitments to NCAA Division I-A colleges so far.
