The University of Mount Union football team will play for the NCAA Division III national championship tonight and two of the team's starters are from the WPIAL.

Offensive guard Pat Mahoney, left, of Greensburg Central Catholic and defensive end Nyejel Thomas of Central Catholic will start against University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the championship game, which is named the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. The game is played in Salem, Va., and this is the ninth consecutive year Mount Union has played for the title and 17th time in 20 years. Mount Union has won 29 games in a row.

Mahoney is a junior while Thomas is a senior. Thomas has 17 tackles, including five for loss.

***Jesse Reed has started six games for American University, an NCAA Division I men's basketball team. Reed, a 6-foot-5 sophomore guard and graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic, is averaging 13.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals a game. He is shooting 53 percent from the field.
