In a battle involving two of the top five teams in the WPIAL, No. 2 North Catholic outshined No. 3 Neshannock in non-conference action Friday at J.C. Stone Field in North Park.

The Trojans (8-0) jumped out to a 21-0 lead before the Lancers (6-2) stormed back in the second half but fell short, 21-14.

Trojans' quarterback Adam Sharlow accounted for all three scores, rushing for one and throwing for two. Sharlow finished the game 13 of 19 for 117 yards.

Ernie Burkes rushed for a 35-yard touchdown and connected from 2 yards out to Steven Jefferies for the Lancers' scores.


California 26, Carlynton 13

Austin Hunter pounded the ball in from 1, 1 and 5 yards to propel the Trojans (4-4, 4-4) to a Black Hills Conference win against the Cougars (4-5, 3-5).

Carmichaels 51, Bentworth 0

Brandon Lawless hooked up twice with Tyler Aeschbacher in the end zone to lift the Mighty Mikes (7-1, 6-1) to a Tri-County South win against the Bearcats (1-7, 1-6).

Monessen 38, Chartiers Houston 7

Javon Brown rushed for three touchdowns and the Greyhounds (8-1, 7-1) picked up a Black Hills Conference win against the Buccaneers (6-3, 5-3) to clinch at least a share of the conference title.

Beth-Center 48, Avella 28

The Bulldogs (8-0, 8-0) clinched the Tri-County South Conference title outright Friday against the Eagles (5-3, 4-3). Matt Riggle, Anthony Welsh and Nico Brown each found the end zone twice.

OLSH 49, Rochester 26

Tom Marra and Joe Serventi rushed for 129 and 120 yards, respectively, to lead the Chargers (4-4, 4-4) to a Big Seven Conference win against the Rams (2-6, 2-5).

Clairton 61, Serra Catholic 13

The No. 4 Bears (7-1, 7-1) scored 49 points in the first half in its Black Hills Conference rout over the Eagles (1-8, 1-7).

Mapletown 36, Jeff-Morgan 21

Colby Kincell rushed for scores of 3, 17 and 5 yards for the Maples (5-3, 4-3) in a win against the Rockets (3-5, 2-5) in the Tri-County South.

Sto-Rox 28, Laurel 17

The No. 1 ranked Vikings (8-0, 7-0) clinched at least a share of the Big Seven conference title with their win against the Spartans (6-2, 5-2).

North Star 48, West Greene 8

The Pioneers (2-7) didn't score until the fourth quarter in their non-conference loss to North Star.

Frazier 46, Vincentian 12

Charles Manack tossed four touchdown passes in the Commodores (6-2) non-conference victory against Vincentian (3-5).

Northgate 28, Springdale 14

The Flames (2-6, 2-5) picked up the second win of the season in Eastern Conference action against the Dynamos (2-6, 2-5).

W. Shamokin 36, Leechburg 6

The Wolves (6-2, 5-2) made history by clinching their first playoff spot in school history with an Eastern Conference win against the Blue Devils (2-6, 2-5).

Fort Cherry 59, Brockway 34

The Rangers' (7-1) offense exploded in a non-conference win against Brockway.

Union 26, S.S. Beaver 14

The Scotties (4-4, 3-4) reached .500 with a Big Seven Conference win against the Rams (0-8, 0-7).

Avonworth 41, Wilkinsburg 0

Jesse Zubik rushed for two scores and caught two more, all in the first quarter in the Antelopes' (7-1, 6-1) Eastern Conference win against the Tigers (2-6, 2-6).
