WPIAL Class A Roundup: Clairton one win from tying record

Tyler Boyd rushed 16 times for 288 yards and scored four rushing touchdowns as top-seeded Clairton rolled to a 39-0 victory against Brentwood in a WPIAL Class A quarterfinal game at Belle Vernon.

Boyd scored on runs of 67, 48, 20 and 81 yards. He added a fifth touchdown when he caught an 89-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Armani Ford.

The Bears (11-0) have won 58 games in a row and are within one game of the Pennsylvania record of 59 consecutive victories held by Central Bucks West.

Bryon Clifford kicked a 29-yard field goal for the Bears.

In a regular-season game a month ago, the Bears defeated the Spartans, 42-7. In that game, Boyd rushed for 237 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Ford completed 2 of 5 passes for the Bears, who amassed 453 yards in total offense. Brentwood, which had 141 yards in total offense and was the tournament's No. 9 seed, finished 7-4.

OTHER GAMES
Neshannock 24, Monessen 21

Quarterback Ernie Burkes' 1-yard touchdown run with four seconds remaining lifted the No. 13 Lancers to a come-from-behind victory against the No. 5 Greyhounds in a quarterfinal game at Chartiers-Houston.

Eli Owens ran 46 yards for another score for the Lancers (10-1), and Burkes -- who completed 11 of 20 passes for 139 yards -- hit John Congolose on a 13-yard touchdown pass. Neshannock had 345 yards in total offense.

Monessen's Clintell Gillaspie, who rushed 20 times for 112 yards, had touchdown runs of 3 and 23 yards. He also caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Chavas Rawlins, who completed 7 of 14 passes for 129 yards. Monessen, which had 337 yards in total offense, finished 9-2.

Sto-Rox 33, Union 8

Quarterback Lenny Williams rushed for two touchdowns and passed for two more as the No. 2 Vikings raced to a 14-2 halftime lead and never looked back in defeating the No. 10 Scotties in a quarterfinal game at Mars.

Williams, who rushed 16 times for 156 yards, had scoring runs of 15 and 1 yards.

He also connected with Brendan Blair and Javelle Kirkland on scoring passes of 17 and 16 yards.

Sto-Rox (10-1) outgained Union (7-4), 408 yards to 238.

Drew Robinson, the Scotties' leading rusher with 17 carries for 104 yards, scored on a 3-yard run. Union's other points came on a second-quarter safety.
