Avella added another chapter to its turnaround story.

Avella won only five games in the past nine years, but the Eagles ran their record to 5-0 this season by defeating host Geibel, 59-6, Saturday in a WPIAL Class A Tri-County South Conference game.

Jake Temple scored three touchdowns for Avella (4-0 in conference) on runs of 34 and 76 yards, and an 85-yard kickoff return. Temple finished with three carries for 107 yards. Nick Kusich had two touchdowns on runs of 57 and 42 yards and finished with 101 yards on four attempts.

This is the first time since 1994 that Avella has started the season 5-0. That year, the Eagles lost their sixth game of the season. Avella will try to go 6-0 for the first time since 1976 Friday when it plays host to Frazier.
