The WPIAL went 1 for 3 at the Rally in the Valley.

After two WPIAL teams lost in the event earlier in the day, Central Catholic came through with a 49-22 victory against Youngstown Ursuline last night at Wheeling Island Stadium (W. Va.).

McKeesport and Woodland Hills were the WPIAL teams to lose. Central Catholic, the Post-Gazette's No. 1-ranked WPIAL Class AAAA team, spotted Ursuline a 16-0 lead, but dominated the rest of the way.

"I think McKeesport and Woodland Hills were in with some heavy hitters," Central Catholic coach Terry Totten said. "I'm not happy with the way we played, but it's an opener for us. I thought we were undisciplined and lacked a little bit of focus on certain plays."

But Totten couldn't find much wrong with the game of Damian Jones-Moore. A 5-foot-6, 165-pound sophomore, Jones-Moore rushed for 204 yards on 24 carries and scored four touchdowns.

"We told our kids that he's the best running back we've seen since Dan [Boom] Herron two years ago," Ursuline coach Dan Reardon said, referring to the running back who is now a starter at Ohio State.

Central Catholic outscored Ursuline, 21-0, in the fourth quarter. Jones-Moore's touchdowns came on runs of 16, 3, 3 and 5 yards. Fullback Dom Maggio also scored twice on runs of 1 and 4 yards.

Central Catholic outgained Ursuline, 323-231.
