Emily Anderson scored 17 points and snatched nine rebounds as WPIAL Class AAA champion South Fayette defeated District 10 runner-up Mercyhurst Prep, 58-38, in a second-round girls PIAA playoff game Wednesday night at Sharon.
Sam Kosmacki added 16 points and Mikayla Fetchet added 11 for the Lions (24-3), who won their ninth game in a row.
Carlee Kilgus had eight assists and seven of the Lions’ 15 steals.
South Fayette began the game on a 10-0 run. Lions coach Matt Bacco thought the margin could have been greater.
“We were happy to hold [Mercyhurst Prep] to zero points, but we missed some layups and should have had a bigger lead,” he said.
Renee Stoicovy scored eight points for the Lakers (19-8).
Bacco said the balanced approach has worked well for the Lions all season.
“We take what the defense gives us,” he said. “We try to create open shots for the open player.”
