Norwin didin’t make the same mistake twice.
Despite Mt. Lebanon (16-10) giving the Knights their closest game of the season in a two-point win for the defending champion Feb. 19 in the WPIAL quarterfinals, it wasn’t the same story Friday in a 58-44 win at Plum in the PIAA Class AAAA first round. Norwin (26-0) expanded on a two-point halftime lead, going on a 16-3 run to end the game.
“I knew coming into the game that they wanted revenge because it was a tough game. They had a shot at the end of that first game that could have went in, and they could have beat us,” Norwin senior guard Alayna Gribble said. “We wanted to win so bad. And our goal is to get to that state championship.”
Gribble, a Pitt recruit, scored a game-high 17 points while Jenna Cole and Taylor Ingel each had 10. Mt. Lebanon’s Maura Wallace had 12 points, including four 3-pointers.
The Knights lost in the PIAA semifinals a year ago. They play Penn Hills Tuesday in the second round.
