The Aliquippa High School boys basketball team finished off another perfect run to a WPIAL championship this afternoon, defeating Lincoln Park, 49-45, in the Class AA title game at Petersen Events Center.
It is the second consecutive season that Aliquippa won a WPIAL title with a perfect record. The Quips are 25-0 and only the second team in WPIAL history to win back-to-back titles with undefeated records. New Castle won three in a row with perfect marks from 2012-14.
Aliquippa had a 30-14 halftime lead, but had to fight off a rally by Lincoln Park in the second half. Lincoln Park cut the deficit to 47-45 with 17 seconds left, but Kaezon Pugh made two free throws with 10.1 seconds left to clinch the win.
