Defending Class AAAA champion Chartiers Valley is seeded No. 2 in this year's high school playoffs.

It has been 28 years since a boys high school basketball team from Class AAAA Section 1 has won a WPIAL title. But this year, a Section 1 team has the No. 1 seed for the playoffs.
The WPIAL released playoff pairings and seedings tonight, and the No. 1 seed for the boys Class AAAA tournament is Latrobe. The Wildcats are the Section 1 champion and have a 20-1 record. They got the No. 1 seed over defending champion Chartiers Valley.
The other top seeds in Class AAAA are No. 3 Penn Hills and No. 4 Plum.
The playoffs begin Friday and the WPIAL championships are Feb. 26-27 at Pitt’s Petersen Events Center.

Class AAA – 1. New Castle. 2. Beaver Falls. 3. Mars. 4. Highlands.
Class AA – 1. Aliquippa. 2. Lincoln Park. 3. Quaker Valley. 4. Greensburg Central Catholic.
Class A – 1. Monessen. 2. Sewickley Academy. 3. Eden Christian. 4. Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic.
The top seeds for the girls playoffs are:
Class AAAA – 1. Norwin. 2. North Allegheny. 3. Penn Hills. 4. Peters Township.
Class AAA – 1. South Fayette. 2. Trinity. 3. Ambridge. 4. Blackhawk.
Class AA – 1. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. 2. Burrell. 3. Seton-LaSalle. 4. Bishop Canevin.
Class A – 1. Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic. 2. Vincentian. 3. Quigley. 4. Ellis School.
