Defense has been a key to Plum's success this season, and the Mustangs locked down Central Catholic Tuesday night in another section win.

The host Mustangs (15-2, 9-2) became the first team to hold the Vikings (10-8, 7-4) to fewer than 50 points this season in a 52-45 victory in Class AAAA Section 2.

Plum has allowed the second-fewest points per game (43.6) in the WPIAL, and held the Vikings to just 28 points in the first three quarters Tuesday to take an 11-point lead into the fourth.

Central Catholic made a run in the final quarter, but Plum made 6 of 6 free throws, four coming from Nick Stotler, in the final 1:30 to seal the win.

Austin Dedert led Plum with 23 points and 15 rebounds, and Stotler chipped in with 15 points.

Alex Schoppen had a team-high 16 points for Central Catholic.
