McKeesport stuns Plum, 58-54 in OT

At this point in the season, every game is essentially a "must-win" for the McKeesport boys basketball team.

Tuesday, the surging Tigers picked up their biggest victory yet.

Khalil Perdue scored 17 points and McKeesport pulled out a 58-54 double-overtime stunner at Class AAAA No. 5 Plum in Section 2.

It was the third win in a row and third in four section games for McKeesport (8-8, 4-5), which began 0-3 in the section.

Jordon Payne added 12 points for the Tigers, who trail Fox Chapel and Franklin Regional -- each 5-4 -- for the section's fourth playoff spot.

Plum (13-2, 7-2), which had been the section co-leader, was led by James Edwards' 19 points.

Other top boys games

■ Joe Mancini made a school-record 11 3-pointers in leading Class AAAA No. 3 North Allegheny (13-2, 7-2) to a 76-44 home win against Shaler (2-14, 0-9) in Section 3. Mancini had seven 3-pointers in the second quarter and finished with 37 points.

■ Malik Hooker scored 36 points and Anthony Richards added 28 to help Class AAAA No. 1 New Castle (15-0, 9-0) defeat visiting Pine-Richland (6-9, 3-6), 93-61, in Section 3. Richards made eight 3-pointers.

■ Joe Mascaro scored 26 points, Josh Krafczynski chipped in 19 and Bethel Park (11-4, 6-3) used a 21-0 first-quarter run to defeat visiting Upper St. Clair (10-5, 6-2), 72-48, in Class AAAA Section 4.

■ George Prota (20 points) was one of five players scoring in double figures for Class AAA No. 3 Elizabeth Forward (14-2, 7-1), which defeated visiting West Mifflin (7-5, 3-4), 82-66, in Section 4.

■ Kyle Olander scored 12 of his 29 points in the third quarter and Shady Side Academy (7-8, 4-4) routed visiting South Allegheny (12-5, 6-2), 70-44, in Class AA Section 3.

■ Winter Fondi's 21 points helped host Quaker Valley (15-1, 7-1) roll to a 72-41 win against Sto-Rox (6-9, 3-4) in Class AA Section 6.

Stars of the night

■ Matt D'Amico had four 3-pointers among his 31 points in leading host Fox Chapel (12-4, 5-4) to a 57-39 triumph against Franklin Regional (9-6, 5-4) in Class AAAA Section 2.

■ Dane Jackson scored 38 points, including the tying and winning free throws with nine seconds left, to propel visiting Cornell (10-6, 2-4) to a 65-64 win against Northgate (5-11, 3-5) in Class AA Section 1.

■ Nicolete Newman scored 20 points and connected on six of Seton-LaSalle's 15 3-pointers in helping the Class AA No. 1 Rebels (13-3, 8-0) roll to an 80-42 win at Brentwood (11-4, 3-4) in Section 4.

■ Players with four or more 3-pointers: Nicolete Newman, Seton-LaSalle, 6; Jenna Devinney, Chartiers Valley, 4.
