South Park knocks out Hopewell

Shelby Lindsay scored 17 points and Allison McGrath added 13 more as South Park edged Hopewell, 50-46, in a PIAA Class AAA second-round game Wednesday night at Chartiers Valley.

The win sends the WPIAL champion Eagles (25-2) into a PIAA quarterfinal against Franklin, but it also ended the stellar career of Hopewell's Shatori Walker-Kimbrough.

The Maryland recruit led all scorers with 20 points, capping her high school career with 2,427 points.

South Park took an early 23-9 lead, but the Vikings (22-5) went on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to 23-20 with 2:21 left in the second quarter.

South Park took another double-digit lead before Walker-Kimbrough capped a 14-4 run with two free throws with 53 seconds left to cut the Eagles' lead to 49-46.

South Park made one field goal in the final quarter and missed the front end of a one-and-one on three occasions. Lindsay, however, hit a free throw with 11 seconds left to set the final score.

Other Class AAA games

• Blackhawk 82, Forest Hills 52: Chassidy Omogrosso scored 25 points, had 10 assists and 7 rebounds as the balanced Cougars rolled to an easy victory against the Rangers at Hempfield. The Cougars will meet Lancaster Catholic Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Halle Denman added 19 points, pulled down 9 rebounds and had 5 steals and 5 assists. Bridgette Shaffer (13), Courtney Vannoy (11) and Alexis Graham (10) also reached double figures in scoring.

• Franklin 65, Elizabeth Forward 45: Alison Pastore scored 12 of her team-high 13 points in the second half as the Warriors fell to the Knights. Franklin (26-1) meets South Park Saturday in the quarterfinals. The Warriors finished 24-4. Angelina Starr led the Knights with 19 points.

Class A games

• Vincentian 44, Berlin Brothersvalley 42: Abbey Bartoszewicz scored on the rebound from her own missed layup just before time ran out to give the Royals a victory against the Mountaineers at Hempfield. The Royals will meet Kennedy Catholic Saturday the quarterfinals. Kennedy Catholic defeated Port Allegany, 70-27. Brenna Wise led the Royals with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

• Bishop Guilfoyle 62, Serra Catholic 50: The Eagles were outscored, 27-15, in the first half, and that 12-point margin stood for the rest of the game. Danielle Dindak led Serra (24-4) with 14 points. Three players combined to score 53 points for the Marauders (26-2). Haley Adams' 21 points led the way.
