Junior Canon-McMillan outfielder Abby McCartney, a Robert Morris commit, is the 2014 softball player of the year.

Canon-McMillan * Outfield * Jr.
Softball is often dominated by pitchers. But as an outfielder, McCartney dominated with her defense and hitting. She hit .575 and was one of the best power hitters in the WPIAL, smacking 12 home runs. Of her 42 hits, 19 went for extra bases. She also had five doubles and two triples. She finished with 45 RBIs and 36 runs scored, and only struck out twice for WPIAL Class AAAA finalist. Moved from catcher to outfield this season. Has already made verbal commitment to play at Robert Morris.
Olivia Gray (Trinity, Shortstop, Jr.)
A starter since her freshman year. Had .554 average and 35 RBIs batting leadoff. Had 5 home runs, 8 doubles, 6 triples and stole 32 bases. Scored 34 runs and struck out only twice. Has already committed to Pitt.
Casey Farkasovsky (Beaver, Pitcher, Soph.)
Led Beaver to its first WPIAL Class AA title. Had 15-1 record with 131 strikeouts and eight shutouts. Only loss came in PIAA playoffs. Hit .403 with six doubles, eight home runs, 22 RBIs and had .992 slugging percentage.
Connor McGaffic (South Side Beaver, First base, Soph.)
Excellent power hitter with .593 average. Had 7 doubles, 2 triples and 13 home runs. Twenty-two of her 32 hits went for extra bases. Had 1.518 slugging percentage. Has already made verbal commitment to Pitt.
Olivia Lorusso (Canon-McMillan, Third base, Sr.)
A four-year starter who was part of two WPIAL Class AAAA championship teams. Batted .532 this season with 25 extra-base hits. Had 8 doubles, 1 triple and 16 home runs. Will play next season at Robert Morris.
A good athlete who was the second-leading scorer on the basketball team. Batted .500 with six doubles, a triple and 11 home runs. Had 26 RBIs, 25 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. Has already committed to Marist.
Madison Shaffer (Neshannock, Pitcher, Jr.)
Shaffer was one of the main reasons Neshannock won WPIAL Class A titles the past two seasons. Had 15-2 record with 105 strikeouts and 1.35 ERA. Batted .333 with 14 RBIs. Did not commit an error this season.
Jordan Seneca (Plum, Shortstop, Sr.)
It was rare when Seneca made an out this season. She batted .710 (44 for 62) with a .724 on-base percentage. Had 10 doubles, 3 triples, 10 home runs and 38 RBIs. Also scored 41 runs. A Robert Morris recruit.
Mary Funderlich (North Allegheny, Third base, Sr.)
A four-year starter who was a pitcher as a freshman. Hit .507 this season with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs and 29 RBIs. Also scored 20 runs and struck out only once. Excellent defensively. Has signed with Robert Morris.
Brianna Dobson (Shaler, Pitcher, Soph.)
Dobson was a major factor as a pitcher and hitter in leading Shaler to the WPIAL Class AAAA title. Was 17-4 with a 1.32 ERA and 92 strikeouts. She also hit .514 with 10 doubles and nine home runs. Also had 29 RBIs.
