From local dispatches
It took the No. 1 team in Class AAAA to finally cool down the WPIAL's hottest hitter.
Nolan Beresford's seventh-inning single drove in Joey DiBridge and allowed Hempfield to edge Norwin, 2-1, Wednesday in Section 2.
Behind the pitching of Tyler Tubbs and Matt Tarabek, Hempfield (8-3, 5-1) held Norwin's J.J. Matijevic hitless. Matijevic finished 0 for 3.
Matijevic, a University of Arizona recruit, had been on a tear. He entered Wednesday with home runs in six consecutive games and hits in 10 at-bats in a row.
Norwin (6-2, 3-2) had scored 58 runs in its previous four games.
