Pine-Richland baseball player Daane Berezo will be playing collegiately at VCU.
Wednesday, Berezo's favorite letters were RBI and W.
Berezo's bases-loaded single with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning snapped a tie and gave Class AAAA No. 4 Pine-Richland a 6-5 win against No. 2 Seneca Valley in a non-section game.
Berezo, a VCU recruit, went 3 for 4 and scored two runs for Pine-Richland (5-1), which has won four games in a row.
Andrew Nussbaum went 2 for 3 with two runs and Zach Grguras added a two-run single.
Seneca Valley (1-3), which defeated Pine-Richland in last year's WPIAL semifinals, dropped its third consecutive game.

■ Rochester's Chaz Verrico tossed a two-hitter and went 3 for 4 with a home run to help the Rams (2-1, 2-0) defeat visiting Union (0-2, 0-1), 10-0, in six innings in Class A Section 3.
■ Katlyn Keenan went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs to help host East Allegheny (1-2, 1-2) outlast Greensburg Central Catholic (0-3, 0-3), 16-15, in Class AA Section 4.
■ Brianna Crawford homered twice and drove in five runs for Jeannette (4-2, 4-0) in a 13-0 six-inning win at Vincentian (0-1, 0-1) in Class A Section 3.

■ West Mifflin's Paige Flore struck out 14 and added four hits in helping the Titans (6-1) roll to a 10-0 six-inning, non-section win against visiting Steel Valley (2-1).
■ Cody Sheetz had two goals and two assists to lead Peters Township to a 10-5 win against visiting Sewickley Academy in Division 1 Section 1.
■ Bishop Canevin named Kevin Trost as its boys basketball coach. Trost was a longtime assistant coach at North Hills, but also was the head coach at Carlynton for two seasons.
