Neshannock won the PIAA Class AA softball championship a year ago.

This season, the Lancers are two wins away from claiming the Class A title.

Madison Shaffer was the winning pitcher and added a two-run single in leading Neshannock to a 6-1 win against Claysburg-Kimmel Saturday in a PIAA Class A quarterfinal at Everett.

Neshannock (20-2), the WPIAL champion, scored the first two runs of the game. District 6 champion Claysburg-Kimmel trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the fourth inning, but Neshannock scored four runs in the fifth to pull away.

Madison Altmyer, Rayanna Furst and Katelyn Burrelli also had RBIs for Neshannock.

"We have lots of kids back from last year," Neshannock coach Tracy Kimmel said. "The playoffs are full of pressure. One bad game and you're going home. Our experience has been big."
