Alex Gedrys, South Fayette

Last week: Gedrys, a goalkeeper, helped keep the South Fayette boys soccer team's season-long shutout streak intact by holding Class AA Section 5 foes Montour, West Allegheny, Carrick and Obama Academy scoreless. No. 2-ranked South Fayette played No. 1 West Allegheny to a draw last Saturday.

Check this out: A senior who was named All-WPIAL last season, Gedrys has played a big part in South Fayette's 10-0-1 start. Heading into Thursday's match at Keystone Oaks, the Lions had outscored their opponents, 40-0. His backup, junior Andrew Pine, has also seen time in net for the Lions.

Most you have ever paid for a pair of soccer spikes? I think my current spikes are at the top of the list. They were $150.

How many penalty kicks have you faced in your career? Probably about 15.

How many have you saved? (Laughs) Well, until this season I didn't save any of them. I had one Saturday, but it missed the net. So technically, I'm 1 for 15. It's not a stat I like.

Do you have any superstitions? Yes. I always wear my player jersey under my goalkeeper jersey. And I don't know why, but I always eat a pack of Starburst before every game.

How much are you looking forward to playing at Highmark Stadium against Seton-LaSalle next Monday? I'm real excited. It's going to be real cool to play under the lights in a special stadium right along the river.

Best athlete at South Fayette? There are a lot of good athletes. I might just say [football quarterback] Brett Brumbaugh.

Better commercial: Geico's "Hump Day" or AT&T's "Queen my dishes, please"? Definitely the "Queen my dishes" one.

Most people might be surprised to know that ... I care more about my Premier League fantasy team than my NFL fantasy league team.

Best player on your Premier League team? Daniel Sturridge from Liverpool.

Callie Frey, Mt. Lebanon

Last week: Frey defeated Pine-Richland's Marlys Bridgham, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, to win consecutive WPIAL Class AAA singles titles.

Check this out: Frey, a senior, started playing at the age of 7, learning from her mother and also her older brother, Ehren Frey, who played tennis at Washington & Jefferson College. Last season, she became the first Mt. Lebanon player since Kelly Kolankiewicz in 1984 to win a WPIAL singles title. She finished second at the 2012 PIAA singles tournament.

Where are you are going to college? I'm still looking, but I'm going to play Division I tennis somewhere.

What it did it mean to you to win your second consecutive WPIAL title? It was amazing to win it again. It was great last year, but to win it twice in a row was really special.

Was this title tougher to win than last year's? I didn't really think about any of that. I just went on the court and played my game.

Which opponent are you closest with off the court? Nicole Cyterski of Oakland Catholic. We're best friends and I just had to play her in the section [singles] final.

Who is your favorite professional tennis player? Roger Federer.

Have you been following the Pirates this season? I actually just went to a game over the weekend. I really never watched baseball until this spring, but I know they're doing really well.

What's your favorite movie? "A Walk to Remember."

Who is your favorite celebrity? I loved the show "Lost," and when I was on vacation in Beverley Hills for a night, there was an awards show and I met Hurley [Jorge Garcia] from Lost. It was so cool. So I'd have to say him.

Most people may be surprised to know that ... I'm really shy when you first meet me, but once you get to know me, I'm not. I'm really outgoing.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I want to be an orthodontist.
