Lesson: Playing in wet, spring weather
Instructor: Sean Parees, head professional at Quicksilver Golf Club
When you're playing in weather like we've been experiencing, where everything is very wet, you need to consider this when playing iron shots, particularly short pitches: Take less of a steep angle and make more of a sweeping motion with your swing. Because the ground is so wet, a steep angle will increase your chances of hitting a fat shot. If you hit it the least little bit fat, the softness of ground will take everything off the shot. Make it a more level swing and don't try to "dig" as much with your club. Also, because the weather is cooler, that means you likely will be wearing more clothes. Take an extra club because your swing will be restricted.
