Dubai women's final is set; Robert Morris men's hockey team defeats Canisius

Former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova defeated Caroline Wozniacki, 6-3, 6-4, Friday to reach the final of the Dubai Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Kvitova will play Sara Errani of Italy, who defeated her doubles partner Roberta Vinci, 6-3, 6-3.

Hockey

Goaltender Eric Levine made 41 saves and Zach Hervato's second-period goal was the difference as Robert Morris (17-12-2, 12-11-2) moved above .500 in the Atlantic Hockey Association with a 4-2 victory against Canisius (11-17-5, 10-12-2) in Buffalo, N.Y.

Golf

Stacy Lewis shot a 3-under 69 to keep her three-stroke lead after the second round of the LPGA Thailand in Chonburi, Thailand. Lewis had five birdies and two bogeys for a 12-under 132 total. Thai teenager Ariya Jutanugarn shot a bogey-free 66 to move into second place.

Wrestling

In a rare gesture of goodwill, members of the U.S. freestyle team shook hands with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after finishing third in Tehran, Iran. Iran and the United States have found a common ground in wrestling lately after the sport was kicked out of the Olympics. Iran won the freestyle World Cup by beating Russia, 6-1, in the final. The Americans finished third by defeating Belarus, 6-1.

Matt Wilps 3-2 overtime decision over Ernest James in the heavyweight match gave 17th-ranked Pitt (9-6, 4-1) a 19-18 Eastern Wrestling League victory against No. 15 host Edinboro (9-6, 3-2).

Ski jumping

American Sarah Hendrickson, 18, won the women's ski jumping title, defeating Sara Takanashi of Japan at the Nordic world championships in Val di Fiemme, Italy. Hendrickson had a 347-foot, 9-inch effort on the first jump and scored 253.7. Takanashi had 251 points.

Soccer

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds signed Jhonny Arteaga, the 2011 USL PRO goal and scoring champion. Arteaga spent the 2012 season with the N.Y. Red Bulls of Major League Soccer.
